#GardenUpdate 1/? from this year. We have a good deal to get caught up on, so let’s begin.

It appears as though only two of the six Purple Passion asparagus crowns that I sowed in the fall, survived the winter. They were rotten when they got to me and I was heartbroken. #DisabilityTax

Peonies are doing well, serviceberry is blooming, and slowly but surely I will make this garden pretty.

I sincerely felt the #Disability tax just now, wen I put in a small grocery order. The total was $122. With all the fees, taxes, etc? $142. If I had the patience and spoons to go to walmart with a backpack, wait the forever it takes to get any help, if I get any at all, and then look around for the things I need? I’d sooner spend the extra $20 and have Instacart do it. But it sure adds up if you’re buying groceries every week or two. I’m very greatful for what I do have. My own partner lives in a country where there is no government support at all. So I do understand that I am very lucky to have been born in Canada. But the #DisabilityTax y’all. It’s a real bitch.
But this is yet another example of the #disabilitytax. Treating personalized shoes like a luxury when they're actually a needed accomodation. And not having them leads to eventual amputation.

A cutting board costs me $75 – it might cost you $10. What to know about the ‘disability tax’

Research shows disabled people need at least 28% more income than non-disabled people for a similar living standard

@danieldurrans @Mikal @revk a visually impaired friend had to spend £400 extra on her new hob to get one with knobs she can use. #DisabilityTax

Partially or wholly touch screen operated appliances are poorly or completely inaccessible to so many people (think dexterity problems as well as vision frex).

Right, today I'm finally going to remember to order more salt tablets. Got the LDN repeat sorted yesterday ✅

I want a really good #camera for the first time in years (my last one was a 35 mm olympus with a couple of good lenses 30 years ago), and borrowed a couple to mess with them and see what I want in a modern high quality digital camera and lens set. It turns out that one of the things I need, beyond mere Canon vs Olympus, is something friendly to folks with hand disabilities.

I have issues with strength and dexterity that I need to prioritize over lens quality, and maybe price.

For camera geeks (and wildlife-photo lovers): Thoughtful remarks about lens choices and framing techniques. Plus, wow, those photos, the leopard and the elephant shots are to die for: https://petapixel.com/2023/08/19/one-lens-plus-two-teleconverters-equals-one-amazing-safari/
