Hi y'all

I'm so sorry to share this news

Suko last night went into DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis) with that, some underlying comorbidities showed up after an ultrasound this morning.

His left kidney was 3.54cm and the other was 4.5cm... His kidneys were failing while also fighting the pancreantitis and his blood was getting acidic.

The ultrasound showed inflamed and scarred kidneys that seem to of been damaged from years ago.

Maybe a previous trauma event for which we cannot recall and that they had deteriorated since then but went unnoticed for so long because cats are amazing at hiding their illnesses.

While we were with him for the period of time we were his DKA was getting quite severe and his body passed urine thrice and a large amount each time at that meaning he was losing sugars and other essential things needed to survive.

The options with further treatment with his age and in his condition, we had were grim with a non-zero chance he could just crash again and again causing him more pain, more stress and more discomfort.

We regret to inform you, y'all, critters and all other walks of life that today on the 4th of January 2026 at 15:27 Australian Eastern Daylight Time, Suko passed away peacefully surrounded by @circus and @hamatora with love and dignity in our hearts for his condition and life.

He was a bright boy, a best friend, a lover to Kitty who passed years ago from Late onset heart disease which broke his heart was depressed for a long time, .. and Luna our darling girl who is being looked after by @Astel_System, ...He was a Carer an emotional support animal with so soo much love in his heart and he fought so very tirelessly till THE very end, Until his mum was back with him again.

The only solace in my pain right now is that he waited for us to come home back to Naarm, to see us one last time and finally rest, ... He's no longer in pain and no longer hurting.

My heart is broken right now and it's going to be a long time until I'm okay again.

Please hold your babies tight today, tomorrow and forever more, .. and if you see anything that is out of the ordinary, Trust your gut! Go and see your local Veterinary doctor

Attached to this post are some of the last pictures we had with him as well as paw prints that the vet took for us

Suko's final bill was 1516.08 AUD with his overnight treatment at Advanced Vetcare in Kensington, Naarm (Victoria, Australia)

This cost also includes his end of life care and cremation so that he can remain apart of the family... So he can continued to be loved by all those that he touched his little paw beans with

Our morning so far:
Got up super early for this boy at 4:30 am so we could be awake enough to get his insulin shot done by 5 am

he ate half his food and then come slunk back into bed, such a good boy c:

Managed to fall asleep after that and wake back up at a reasonable hour,,, now to actually start the day

The chronicles of being a full time carer for a #diabeticfeline

Here we are, Back again

This time, just for check ups!

Making sure he's keeping at the levels we need to keep him at (Glucose, Thyroid etc) so he can maintain a happy healthy life!

Vets checked him over and his Glucose was sitting a little high but normal for a diabetic feline, no ketones or other bad signatures FANTASTIC!

Over the holiday period, He's going to be looked after by a Vet Nurse in Training while we are away in Tartanya (South Australia)

This also gives her first hand experience managing a diabetic feline on a day to day basis and can go towards prior study for her internship
