Picture taken before a demolition of UXOs cleaned by the demining teams I was supervising in Raqqa, all the shells were empty shells used to make handmade mortars, IEDs or other explosive devices/ordnance by ISIS. Contamination is always one of the greatest threat to communities and humanitarian actors, explosive ordnance will remain dangerous for decades leaving behind them a tray of death and suffering and land release operation remain extremely costly and slow
