“As part of House Republicans’ must-pass budget reconciliation bill, lawmakers just snuck in a ten-year federal preemption of state-level artificial intelligence laws — effectively nullifying all local efforts to regulate the explosive spread of AI technology.”

GOP Chooses AI Dominance Over Democracy

House lawmakers writing the upcoming budget bill just snuck in a provision that would wipe from the books every state law regulating artificial intelligence.

Do you think my cousin is using findagrave.com to legitimize bots that he’s making?

Who knows where else he’s made profiles for the 62 people he’s made find a grave profiles for, but when he fills them up with past addresses and Social Security numbers, after Google crawls it, if someone asks Google AI about these people will think they are real people?

I might get in trouble for harassment because I figured out how to sort the profiles he adds by newest, and apparently I’m going to have to look at this regularly to make sure he hasn’t re-added anyone so he can publish addresses and Social Security numbers.

I don’t believe it’s harassment for me to monitor a website that doesn’t have mods doing it, and to report violations of the terms and conditions whenever I see them. I’m willing to be wrong about that though. Bring it.

I’m so confused about how to protect myself from the data pigs.

After we got that data deletion law here in New Hampshire I was having a great time having all kinds of miscellaneous websites delete my data. I thought this was great.

Then I realized that if I don’t have a web presence on a website anyone can pretend to be me and make one, so now I don’t know what to do.

Do I leave my entry on “find a grave” just so no one else can make one and slander me? Or do I make them delete my data because ancestry.com is the largest genealogy data broker out there?

I locked down my credit reports a while back, then I learned there’s a whole list of subprime lenders that don’t use the regular credit reports, or maybe they do but according to Reddit we’re supposed to also lock our credit on all these subprime lender websites.

I did not do that because that would involve me giving all these places my information, but maybe I should. If I did then no one else can pretend to be me on these websites.

There is no right answer is there? They’re just going to do whatever they want to us and leave us stuck with the bill.
