It seems to me that, if it's to pay a meaningful income, a #CryptoUBI cannot follow a fixed algorithm for issuance. Humans need to decide the right amount to pay people.

Unless the entity behind a #CryptoUBI has the power to tax things other than transactions and holdings (in which case isn't it just a UBI?), the combination of transaction fees and inflation will need to be high enough to give all recipients a meaningful income.

@feld The idea behind #CryptoUBI is to create the currency by issuing equal amounts to every human being. You could think of it as "proof of existence", but that's slightly misleading because the network can't be run that way.

Stellar is interesting because it doesn't require spending energy (proof of work) or already having a bunch (proof of stake) in order to participate in running the network & get rewarded for it.

TIL that #CryptoUBI is a thing that exists. The idea, as far as I can tell, is to put new tokens into circulation by just paying equal amounts to anyone who can prove they're human. One system I looked at (Manna) pays out 3.5% of the total supply each year, so each person gets (3.5% / 52 / total_claimants) each week.

For a UBI, though, you want people's incomes to be steady, so whatever organization pays out the tokens will need to adjust based on some basket of goods or something.
