New on the blog this week: last week I was playing in BASIC, but this week I take as direct command of the TMS9918 VDP as possible (via the BIOSless SG-1000) to put the graphics chip through all of its paces at the level of registers and VRAM.

There's a lot about the official datasheet I don't like, and I wrote this to be my new one-stop shop for the chip.

There's a lot here. I think it might well have been unchallenged best-of-breed until the C64's VIC-II in 1982.
