Two snow creatures... maybe bears... maybe Ewoks... seen on Court Street in Cobble Hill (Brooklyn, NYC) on February 24, 2026. Photo taken with the Ubuntu Touch camera app on my Google Pixel 3a XL.

I included these "snow bears" in an article covering snowmen I saw around Brooklyn Between February 24-28.

Many people enjoy going to the beach in the summer. But what if I told you that "people" includes "garden gnomes." I saw this bikini-clad gnome in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, right before where Cobble Hill turns into Carroll Garden. Unfortunately, from her position, she is staring at the street and BQE instead of the Atlantic Ocean.

On March 12, 2025, I came across a discarded Els Pet "Spaceship" litter box left out for the taking in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. It came with a note. The note indicated that the litter box "worked" but was left out due to the former owner's lack of satisfaction with the product (namely the smell). I enjoyed the review and re-published it along with my own thoughts on the litter box's website.

I was walking through the Brooklyn neighborhood of Cobble Hill in the late afternoon on April 21, 2025. I heard a tap-tap-tap in a tree. I looked up and saw a woodpecker with a red crown and white breast with spots pecking away. This was notable because it is only the second time I recall having seen a woodpecker in Brooklyn, with the first being in Park Slope/Gowanus one or two years ago. I pulled out my camera to take a photograph of the woodpecker. Unfortunately, it flew away and across the street before I could even open my camera app, much less take a picture. Thus, the woodpecker joins the blue jay and black squirrel, albino sparrow, and squirrel with a French fry on my tell, don’t show list of New York City wildlife stories.

[Note] Woodpecker in Brooklyn

I heard a woodpecker pecking away on a tree in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. I readed my phone to take a photo but the woodpecker flew away before I could.

Doing a jigsaw puzzle doesn't usually feel like an act of defiance. It is a great puzzle, challenging but not impossible, with lots of symbolism. Seen in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn (NYC)... we have quite a bit happening here. I am partial to the big spider, but the grim reaper is demanding our attention. Moreover, the ghost on the far left looks like it is responsible for the beam of light. Go figure.

I discussed this photo and four additional photos in a full article on inflatable Halloween decorations seen in brownstone Brooklyn in October 2024:

I saw what is either an inflatable cat in a hat dressed as a bat or a cat-bat in a hat.

Inflatable Cat-Bat in Cobble Hill

I ask whether a large inflatable black cat with a hat and bat wings in Cobble Hill close to Halloween 2024 is a cat dressed as a bat or a cat-bat.
