How many species can you use in a full multi-species coalescent tree inference such as BPP or Star-Beast ?
Also, does it work well for old divergences (like hundreds of millions of years)?

In Xu & Yang 2016, they say:

> Furthermore, current Bayesian implementations do not deal with the violation of the molecular clock adequately and do not appear to work very well for deep species phylogenies (Ogilvie et al. 2016)

But since then, has it improved?

We introduce and implement a newly developed approach to reconstruct potential past distributions for ancestral lineages across North American #Heuchereae and across a paleoclimatic record extending from the late #Pliocene. We employ an improved framework with a #coalescent simulation approach to test and confirm previous hybridization hypotheses and identify one new intergeneric #hybridization event

Identifying climatic drivers of hybridization with a new ancestral niche reconstruction method

Abstract. Applications of molecular phylogenetic approaches have uncovered evidence of hybridization across numerous clades of life, yet the environmental facto

Our PhyloCoalSimulations.jl :julia:package simulates gene genealogies under an extended #coalescent model with #hybridization and gene flow.

I hope it will stimulate more simulation-based studies!

The #network is given in Newick format, and gene trees can be mapped inside the species (or population) network.
