This article came out two years ago, and if we'd fucking heeded the warning and got on with #CleanerAir, we would have so much less illness (and allergies, and smoke inhalation, etc) around.

It's estimated that modern-day humans spend 80-90% of their time indoors. Indoor spaces should be fit for purpose, aka not just cheap sealed boxes where we hot-box each other's breath for hours on end.

Whose breath are you breathing?

How much of the air you're breathing is air someone else exhaled? And in the midst of a pandemic caused by an airborne virus, where are the riskiest places to be?

Reading this makes me feel like I do in #COVIDcautious discussions where everyone is all in on masks and boosters but seems entirely unaware or unconcerned with #CleanerAir.

Why the reluctance to address #TheAirWeShare?

Especially when doing so takes the onus of prevention off individuals and expands it to the spaces we share? To the people who own and operate those spaces, who have a duty of care if those spaces are, necessary for human thriving?

Thinking about that one article about the heatwaves and some obtuse talking head recommending that people start using parasols for shade when it gets this hot. And. On one hand, absolutely fuck that random guy, fix the actual problem for once instead of suggesting superficial solutions... But also absolutely yes PLEASE bring back parasols, I'd love to be able to find one without making it myself!

More or less exact quote from the last annual inspection of my unit. Landlord's agent was laughing at my attempts to continue to breathe now that new(ish) neighbours use scented laundry products and their vent is VERY close to my furnace intake.

Exhibit A: less general wheezing over winter during laundry times

Exhibit B: filthy #MERV14 #filter

Clean air indoors, but also outdoors, is an accessibility issue. The immunocompromised, those with cardiac and pulmonary issues, migraine, sensory sensitivities, etc...need cleaner air. Clean air for all!

Scientists wonder if global warming and El Nino are an accomplice in fueling this summer’s record-shattering heat. They say that cleaner air from new shipping rules could add more solar radiation to the Earth’s surface. This could have implications for climate sensitivity, the amount of warming expected from a doubling of carbon dioxide levels, and the need for more accurate measurements of aerosols and clouds. #HeatWave #CleanerAir #ClimateChange https://apnews.com/article/hot-summer-climate-change-el-nino-9c5151f2fca2cd77d92a1c7bc61a0035?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=HariTulsidas%2Fmagazine%2FArchetypes
Scientists look beyond climate change and El Nino for other factors that heat up Earth

Scientists are wondering if global warming and El Nino have an accomplice in fueling this summer’s record-shattering heat. The European climate agency Copernicus reported that July was one-third of a degree Celsius hotter than the old record. That’s a bump in heat that is so recent and so big, especially in the oceans, that scientists are split on whether something else could be at work. Researchers say by far the biggest cause of the recent extreme heat is human-caused climate change, with a smaller contribution from a natural El Nino. But some scientists are searching for an additional factor.
