Santa Claus is a legendary figure whose origins trace back to a blend of history, religion, and folklore. The foundation of Santa Claus is most closely linked to Saint Nicholas, a fourth-century Christian bishop from Myra (in present-day Turkey), known for his generosity, kindness, and secret gift-giving, particularly to children and those in need. Stories of Saint Nicholas spread throughout Europe during the Middle Ages, especially in the Netherlands, where he became known as *Sinterklaas*. Dutch settlers later brought this tradition to North America, where the name gradually evolved into “Santa Claus.” The modern image of Santa Claus developed primarily in the 19th century in the United States. Literary works such as *A Visit from St. Nicholas* (commonly known as *’Twas the Night Before Christmas*) helped define Santa as a cheerful, rotund figure who traveled by sleigh pulled by reindeer and delivered gifts on Christmas Eve.
