Consider these 2 basic ways of advocating for something on ethical grounds;

1) You should feel bad for not doing Z.

2) Doing Z would help you out in these ways, and make the world marginally better in these ways. How can I help?

Which one do you think creates more change? Especially among people not already committed to the ethical framework driving your advocacy.

This first talk with Nora Bateson and @snowded is a joy to listen to. So much accessible wisdom in such a short time. The second talk is also great.

Waves 2024: Why complexity matters

Change making is grounded in action. However, that action can take unexpected forms.

Change making is not limited to political activism.

- It is about your intention to help create a better world, and allowing right action to flow from there with no expectations.
- It is about the space from which you set about creating the world you want to see today, in your everyday life.

As a #ChangeMaker, how do you work in the face of hopelessness? How do you swim against an overwhelming tide?

It is not as simple, or easy, as saying, "Choose hope."

You need to know why hope matters to you.

Hope is not an ideology. It is not something you simply believe in cerebrally. Such hope shatters under the terrible realities of terrible times.

Neither is hope a guarantee. It doesn't give you any more certainty or control over outcomes.

The greatest act of resistance is to be both:

- Centred in yourself, and
- Connected with more than yourself.

From this space of what Daniel Siegel calls intraconnectedness, your most powerful contributions emerge.

Another thing your inner critic may say is, "How's taking the time to sense into things going to make a difference now?"

This is a long game. What we see happening in the world right now isn't something that can be changed with a blitz. This will take decades of work, optimistically speaking.

This is a change you and I will likely not see within our lifetime. So, in a sense, we are not doing it for you, or I, but for the younger, and future generations.

When I sense into the field of the community I wish to support, I feel the tension of:

- Wanting to make a difference, somehow, yet
- Feeling stuck, and frozen in shock, horror, and overwhelm.

It may sound counterintuitive, but, if this is you, start with you.

Your inner critic may cry, "How's starting with me going to change the world?"

The space from which you approach helping anything, or anyone, matters.

As a budding change maker:

- You start out knowing the change you want to see, but
- You may not yet be in a position where you can create the impact you want.

It can be frustrating.

In this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2wLP0izeJE, Ira Glass called this the gap. He is speaking to creatives, but I believe #changemaking emerges from the same place as creative work.

And, as Ira says, the only way to close the gap is to do the work.

You need answers, and you want change now.

There is no arguing that time is of the essence. However, be sure to leap into action from a grounded space of awareness.

Speed without presence has the potential to fall flat, or worse, do more harm than good.

Check your #changemaking intentions.

- Are you leaping into action aligned with the needs of all?
- Or are you rushing because you feel overwhelmed, and what you really need is time, and space to centre yourself, and regulate?

#changemakers

#Changemaking is an important part of your life, but it is only one part of your life.

There will be times when your work will demand a lot from you. However, that cannot be all the time. If it is, it's time for some tough questions.

- Why is change making taking over your life?
- Why are you neglecting other areas of your life?

Your best work comes from a whole, and nourished self, and life.

What does wholeness look like for you? How are you nourished?
