To my way of thinking, it seems at least possible the Town of Brattleboro may have gone into EMS planning with a grudge against Rescue Inc. State review might not hurt any. Golden Cross arguably saved my life in May, so I am not the one to complain about the current arrangement.

New case study from the center left think tank #thirdway about #maine #hospital consolidation and how it's "ripping off patients"
As a Maine doc, the only omission I see is that they fail to discuss Maine's #certificateofneed law which allows hospitals here to block lower cost competitors. That's part of why we send some patients out of state for lower cost tests and surgeries.

"Competition leads to lower prices," they say. But when the competitors are not playing on an even playing field, then you will not see those benefits.
The downside to this lifting of the "certificate of need" requirement is that private practices can swoop into an area and take paying patients from a local hospital while rejecting those patients who are unable to pay. Hospitals with emergency rooms are not allowed to do so which give these private practices a competitive advantage.

SC now allows hospitals to open without state approval. Will it lower health care costs?
