First bloom on this night blooming cereus and it hung around until morning! This and another one were both started from the same cutting 2 years ago. The other has more filtered shade and no buds (or pretty red sun stress) yet #bloomscrolling #flowers #garden #gardening #cactus #cereus #queenofthenight

Last night in the greenhouse...

'Queen of the Night' a night-flowering Cereus though not sure which one. The large (5"-6") flowers start to open late afternoon but are not in their prime until after dark. Then they're over by the morning.

Here’s my watercolor & pen art of a Mexican Night-blooming Cereus at Tohono Chul (Tucson AZ). I was intrigued by its tall skinny stems & 1 wilted flower. It’s also known as Snake Cactus (with the fittingly scientific name of Peniocereus serpentinus). Cacti and Succulents

—and What's the Difference, Anyway?

Paula Borchardt - Visual Storyteller

In today’s blog post I shared my process for creating this art of a Trichocereus and discussed episodic vs. serial storytelling as seen through the lens of Star Trek!

Our night-blooming Cereus put on a beautiful show after sunset last night.

Are there #cactus and #succulents #identification groups on here yet?

i think i have identified this here as #Cereus repandus -
the Peruvian apple cactus,

plant growing in #Silole #kenya
- but it could be good to have such a group here.

My two Cereus repandus 'Kiwi Sunrise' plants recently had 6 blooms.

I pollinated two blooms from another cultivar, selfed the other 4.

All 4 self-pollinated blooms dropped off; 1 of the 2 cross pollinated blooms dropped. Very small sample size, but so far no evidence that KS can self pollinate.

I'll keep tracking. This is a promising fruit species, & I want to be able to tell people which cvrs are self pollinating (you only need a single plant to get fruit). #cactus #Cereus #kadushi
