Ascension is the largest and wealthiest Catholic health system in America.
Such systems are growing faster than you might notice, because they don't always announce their religious affiliation. "Ascension" has a vaguely religious-sounding name; many Catholic hospitals are even less obvious. Like crisis pregnancy centers (fake abortion clinics) they trick women into the door, then give them religious dogma instead of healthcare.
@[email protected] calls Ascension "The Catholic Hospital System Killing Women" not only because they allowed a woman named Yeniifer Glick to die for want of an abortion, but because they have closed so many of their obstetrics units. In Bay County, Florida, maternal mortality *doubled* because of these closures, according to National Nurses United. They closed 26% of their labor and delivery departments, mostly in low-income areas.
