This is another one made WAAAAY harder than it needs to be, by those who care more about seeing the 'other' LOSE than about achieving a just outcome FOR ALL.
In a country where people can legally change their names to anything they or their parents want--like, say "X Æ A-Xii" or "Exa Dark Sideræl," there would seem to be very little justification for not letting someone make their name reflect HOWEVER they want to see themselves.
On the other hand, both freedom of speech and free exercise of religion would seem to argue against the coercive power of the state being turned on OTHERS to try to force them to use a pronoun for someone that, to them, is simply FACTUALLY INCORRECT.
But decency and respect for OTHERS' freedom ought to at least allow us to use A NON-GENDERED ONE LIKE 'THEY' to avoid using one THAT OFFENDS & MAY EVEN TRAUMATIZE THEM, no?
Seriously, folks--#CantWeAllJustGetAlong...?
