What a beautiful space. Reminds me of the Mendel center in Brno, Czech Republic, nowadays used as a conference center.

In our college, Pembroke, we've refurbished a former United Reform Church into a 220-seat auditorium. A fantastic venue for music concerts and also used daily during term time for lectures, and as a conference site. In the bell tower, we've built a rock climbing gym – just opened this September 2025.

A great use of a great space made of wood and stone, with wonderful acoustics. The college graciously refurbished the organ and installed a grand piano too.

Mind you, these are the most expensive tomatoes ever eaten, for to grow and ripen in open air on November 1st, the UK had to diligently burn an average of 3 inches of its entire soil for the last 150 years or so https://xkcd.com/2992/ and all the world's governments had to commit untold fortunes, to the tune of 7 trillion dollars a year, in subsidies to fossil fuels https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/WP/Issues/2023/08/22/IMF-Fossil-Fuel-Subsidies-Data-2023-Update-537281 . Bear in mind mean daily minimum and maximum temperatures in Cambridge, UK, should be 4 and 11C respectively, whereas the last few days we've been instead at 7 to 15, and this week it's forecasted to get even warmer.

Cherry tomato harvest, November 1st. Cambridge, UK. A grace for Samhain.

Green tomatoes and many flowers optimistically forecast further harvests.

Join us for a spooky cleaning experience on Saturday 1st November, 10:30am-4pm, at the Lockon (CB1 1HA).

This is a crucial task for the cleaning, for CCK to continue without problems, but also for the various community services that the Lockon provides.

Any help is very much appreciated, although we'd appreciate people signing up for longer times to make sure things happen. It'll be fun and with good vibes :)

ToS say this open wifi net called CambWifi_Public is a "non-public service".

Brought to you by EastNet Partnership, which is who knows who exactly, definitely not an actual registered company.

The net's capture portal really tempts you to skip reading ToS. If you go for it, you'll endure the gray-on-gray wall of totally unstructured text of ToS which has quite some mildly odd points. Link:

Day off today (TOIL after being on call), so I've been doing some museum tourism. First, the "Made in Ancient Egypt" exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum (some amazing items), and then the Whipple Museum (history and philosophy of science), which I've never managed to get into before, which has a fascinating collection of scientific instruments. #CambridgeUK
