Join us for a spooky cleaning experience on Saturday 1st November, 10:30am-4pm, at the Lockon (CB1 1HA).

This is a crucial task for the cleaning, for CCK to continue without problems, but also for the various community services that the Lockon provides.

Any help is very much appreciated, although we'd appreciate people signing up for longer times to make sure things happen. It'll be fun and with good vibes :)

ToS say this open wifi net called CambWifi_Public is a "non-public service".

Brought to you by EastNet Partnership, which is who knows who exactly, definitely not an actual registered company.

The net's capture portal really tempts you to skip reading ToS. If you go for it, you'll endure the gray-on-gray wall of totally unstructured text of ToS which has quite some mildly odd points. Link:

It is said that about 100,000 people commute into Cambridge every day. Many by train and bus (fortunately), some by bicycle, but way too many by car in a typical pattern of one person per car. The pollution left in their wake is devastating, in addition to endangering everyone else.

In Cambridge (UK), "The average worker spends the equivalent of 28 working days a year commuting" (2017)

How long Cambridge commuters spend travelling a year revealed

Poor transport infrastructure, inflexible employers not offering flexible and soaring property prices have all been blamed

If anything, the lulls are an argument for renewables: the city centre of Cambridge (UK) is presently choking in smog. Given the usual patterns of car driving for commuting, the city is entirely dependent on wind for clean air.

As well as the southern #CambridgeUK busway/path closure (☝️), the northern busway and foot/cycle path through #Histon will be closed weekday daytimes (0930-1600) from this Monday through Fri 7 Nov, again to install fencing.

Some previously usable crossing points will be permanently closed as a result (particularly affecting routes from #Girton), causing some consternation; I'm not familiar with the details, but this seems like a good guide:

Day off today (TOIL after being on call), so I've been doing some museum tourism. First, the "Made in Ancient Egypt" exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum (some amazing items), and then the Whipple Museum (history and philosophy of science), which I've never managed to get into before, which has a fascinating collection of scientific instruments. #CambridgeUK
