Update: I went back to Metro to buy some of this, seeing that the price was still quite low. But, one of the jars had a sticker on it saying, "this company supports the murder of children in Gaza". I don't know if that's true, but the company is Achva, which is from Israel. So, I declined to buy it. Alas, I guess I'll stick with Bulk Barn.

I went to the Bulk Barn and bought tahini. It cost $20.25 per kg. I then went to pick up a few items in Metro. I compared the price of their tahini offerings, and saw that it was priced at $1.20 per 100g, and thus $12.00 per kg.

In Bulk Barn, I had to scoop out the tahini from a large bucket into a provided plastic container (which was messy as hell), whereas at Metro it comes already packaged in a nice glass jar. Given the communal bucket scooping, I expected Bulk Barn to be cheaper. Not so.

Bulk Barn is starting to roll out labels for Canadian products. The manager at my store said the labels get mailed out and are coming a bit at a time. Probably the buyer is doing this whenever they have a spare moment. Hopefully there is some pressure to add labels for American products, too.

Note that they carry pre-packaged goods, and a lot of that is Canadian.
