Catherine Connolly says there is no 'recognition' of climate emergency in Budget 2026

‘I don’t expect any Budget to sort out those crises, but I do expect a Budget to be put in context of the existential threat posed by climate change.’

The government is reducing the VAT rate on apartments to make apartment building more attractive. Despite what one commentator has said on the radio this morning, this will have no impact on the cost of the apartment for buyers.

The "attractiveness" of the VAT cut for developers is that they can make more profit per apartment (about €20k), they're not going to pass that on to buyers.

And it's not going to increase supply to the extent that apartment prices will come down.

I've never been able to cope with the fact that Paschal Donoghue can't say "put."

@fluffgar Ooh! Good news!

Paging #Budget26 watchers and #MastoDaoine 👆🏼

I missed the end of #Budget26 part ii, but that's that done and all, I suppose.

The government has announced €360 million for Active Travel in this year's budget. On the face of it, it looks like they've maintained the same level of funding from the previous government.

Unfortunately, with inflation, this is effectively a 20% cut on what was set aside for Active Travel in 2020. We needed to see this increase to €450 million this year to keep up with inflation.

I know I shouldn't be surprised that this government is providing tax exemptions to landlords, loopholes for site hoarders, and increased tax deductions for developers in today's budget but my god, I didn't think it would be so blatant.

#Budget26

And that's #Budget26 part i done.
