"The Liberal Party announced they will challenge the election result for Bradfield in the High Court."
Let's contribute to Nicolette Boele's defence fund.
Excitement! Liberals lodge CDR challenge to #Bradfield over rulings on contested votes (and hopefully not that clueless nonsense that was being floated as possible reasons earlier).
The court can, after examining the ballots
- declare Boele still the winner
- declare Kapterian the winner
- void the election (but if the challenge is confined to rulings on votes this only happens if it's a tie)
- amend the margin
The #Bradfield recount is complete, with the independent Nicolette Boele defeating the Liberals' Gisele Kapterian by 26 votes.
Formal declaration to take place tomorrow, at which point the federal election will be officially complete (though there is still the possibility of a court challenge).
Since my vote is one of the 26 that decided #Bradfield it has been an interesting few weeks following it all via

Mainly noting there are >6000 informal votes, and many of those apparently excluded while still expressing a clear preference between LIB and IND. On the other hand there's probably no other way to handle that. A rerun election, which could still happen, seems likely to be very different - would Labor run?, who turns out to vote? do we care less given Labor majority? etc...
I'm glad for the result and hopeful Nicollette Boele will find a way to make a positive contribution in this term. At the very least we have something different for this part of Sydney.
We're into week 2 of the #Bradfield recount, and Nicolette Boele has taken a 21-vote lead at this stage.
It could, however, easily flip back to Kapterian over the coming days as the recount continues.
