Ruku-chan #belted out the lyrics to a popular anime tune. Her blonde hair and hoop earrings danced along with her. Hina and Mei gave her a ten for effort, a seven for her choice of song, and a three for her delivery. Actually, make that a four, including a bonus for volume.
Ginka-chan stared open-mouthed. This was the most frivolous thing she had done in years. She hadn’t had time in her former life as a vampire hunter to watch anime, let alone learn a song from a show. She didn’t even know the title of one. But now, she was going to live the life of a high school girl. If that meant karaoke with friends, she was game.
“Your turn,” Ruka said, thrusting the microphone in her face.
Ginka had selected a song she had learned during training. She thought it was the best fit for what she was hearing. It had a fast, upbeat rhythm and wasn’t associated with fighting. She would have preferred “同期の桜” (Dōki no Sakura). She’d sometimes sung that over a campfire while hunting vampires in the mountains. However, it didn’t fit the setting, and she didn’t want to stand out that much.
As the intro to her song started, the other girls looked at each other with slightly open mouths.
Following her friend Ruka’s lead, Ginka let loose with the lyrics to “Ultra Soul.”
Mei whispered to Hina, “So old. Who’d sings this one?”
Hina answered, “Are we at Grandma’s gym?”
Ruku silently noted, “Got to teach that girl something cooler.”
B'z / ultra soul
