Over the last few days, we’ve been looking at the similarities between the late-1950s designs produced by Pininfarina for Lancia, BMC and Peugeot. I’d always assumed that Fiat’s 1800/2100/2300/1500L line was a fourth member of the Pininfarina lookalike club but Wikipedia suggests it was designed in-house. Other sources do attribute it to Pininfarina, though. Either way, the resemblance is certainly there. Pic: Fiat 2100 #AutoMotoRetro Turin, 2017. #Fiat #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar
Yesterday I was commenting on the well-known similarity in appearance between the 1960 Peugeot 404 and the BMC ‘Farina’ models such as the 1959 Austin Cambridge. But this look originated with another, larger and more expensive, car, the 1957 Lancia Flaminia Berlina, seen here at #AutoMotoRetro in Turin in 2017. This was in turn based on Pininfarina’s 1955 Florida I design study. #Lancia #Pininfarina #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar
In 1968, Fiat introduced this car, the Autobianchi Bianchina Giardiniera estate car. It replaced both the Fiat 500 Giardiniera, introduced in 1960, and the Autobianchi Bianchina Panoramica. Although it was badged as an #Autobianchi, it was basically a continuation of the Fiat Giardiniera model, and its exterior design was shared with the #Fiat rather than with the original #Bianchina. A few weeks ago, @Pierrette mentioned three interesting old cars her family had owned and I promised I would include them in my daily posts (hope I’ve identified these correctly!). So here goes with the Autobianchi Bianchina, a sister model to the #Fiat 500, which was produced from 1957 to 1970. The white car is a Berlina (saloon) and the green/white car is a Panoramica (estate version). Both cars were snapped at #Automotoretro in Turin in 2016. #Autobianchi #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar 1/2
I spotted this pretty little Autobianchi Bianchina at the Automotoretrò classic car show in Turin in 2016. It's based on the similarly sized Fiat 500 and was produced between 1957 and 1970. #WeirdCarMastodon #WeirdCars #davidsdailycar #Autobianchi #automotoretro
