Ruth MottramOut on the ice with a bigger team today, here's a completely accidental drone shot showing our colleagues from the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources deploying some instruments under the sea ice to measure ocean noise and narwhal populations.
DMI and GINR are collaborating in the EU #HorizonEurope project #ArcticPassion which this works contributes to. I was flying the drone and doing snow work for DMI that will be used in another EU project @[email protected], and it will probably also be used together with ESA satellite data: a nice example of EU projects working together in the #PolarRegions

On the 8th of April 2024 in Barcelona, at the Institut de Ciències del Mar and online, OCEAN:ICE collaborated alongside many Horizon Europe funded projects, such as TipESM, ObsSea4Clim, Arctic PASSION, Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) for the 2024 UN Ocean Decade Conference Satellite Event ‘Monitoring the Ocean: Panel Discussion and Networking Event’ and a photo exhibition on beautiful images from fieldwork with inputs

Ruth Mottram@sorenhave @Lats there was some discussion of this point with #arcticPassion colleagues in January (we did and EU parliamentary briefing together), the conclusion was (+ I emphasize I'm not a permafrost/methan clathrate expert) yes, it's something that can happen but will likely not be as catastrophic as first thought

After #ArcticPASSION and @OceanIceEU presentations, panel discussion took place with the participation of Elisabetta Balzi, Clara Ganslandt and Inuuteq Holm Olsen.
Michael Karcher from @awi delivered a presentation on #ArcticPASSION elaborating on the importance of the Arctic, knowledge based decision-making and the needs in relation to Arctic change and Arctic observing.
