So.... The other day Blue Monday came up on my playlist while driving to work, followed by another classic, also heavily synthed up. It was so good to hear it cranked up on better speakers and realized I really like synth/electronic music.
I then thought of the apocalypse, an irrational fantasy of less people, less shit, simpler times (totally not realistic, but you know.... Fantasy), but no electricity, or minimal power..... NO Electronic dance music! 😭
I tried imagining the trade of early LPs, even more coveted and valuable now there is nimimal power, fewer devices. Record players rigged to solar or steam power. Gatherings of people who love music but only get to listen to it on occasion when a traveler comes through and is willing to put it on the turntable in exchange for room and board for the night. A new Album means a new party, a rare treat, and Dancing outside our ramshackle indoor outdoor bar/community center/kitchen area. I try to imagine people now trying to mimic the electronic sounds on classic instruments and homemade instruments. I know Muete and Moonhooch kinda do this, but thinking about the loss of electronic music makes me appreciate how fragile it is/could be (let's include all our forays into digital music as well).
