Popular myth says he lost it in the war. But what few really know is that the finger was not actually blown off, but rather it grew on the other hand as a sixth digit.

Ironically, despite being a science fiction series, they used 5-fingered stunt hands for close-ups, so we were denied what would have been considered "undeniably cool" even in 1966.

Unfortunately for Republicans, science and objective reality have a liberal bias because of the fact that Republicans reject facts as a matter of political expediency. When confronted with empirical information that conflicts with their politics, they attack the facts, and attempt to discredit the scientific process rather than adjust their views to conform with what is objectively true.
