I may have just acquired another sewing machine...

The Singer Model 27, introduced in 1891 was an evolution of the earlier 1887 model VS2 or “Vibrating Shuttle v2”, sewing machine. The Model 27

Waiting on a couple of missing parts I can't make myself...bobbin cover plate, spool pin. I need to make a torsion spring for the bobbin winder. This was one of the machines that had lived outdoors as yard decor. REALLY tough restoration, but it feels amazing now.

Rather than touch up the paint and artwork, I cleaned is thoroughly then laquered over the top to preserve the story while still letting it shine.

This afternoon I dug into that Singer Model 66 from 1912 that I posted photos of a few weeks ago. The one caked in rust.

The penetrating oil (Singer sewing machine oil) did the job for the most part; I only needed the torch for one screw, and it was already pretty badly chowdered. Weird threads, so I'll have to make one on a lathe, but it's out.

If I were any good at photo-documenting this stuff I'd be a Youtube star, but the before-and-after photos should be good.

THis poor 1926 Singer spent a few years living OUTSIDE. I decided to try and save the base while seeing if I could avoid adding any new veneer, just recovering the old stuff. Results in reply.

Me: "No thanks, in that condition I'm not interested even at the $20 asking price. I've never seen a machine this bad."

Them: "You might as well just take it then, because I'm throwing it in the trash if you don't".

This one is going to be...challenging. 1912 Singer Model 66-3. As 66s go it's a rare (but not necessarily desirable) machine.

Folks, please take care of your grandma's stuff, even if you don't understand why it's precious.

My 1911 Singer sewing machine is back together, and I'm very pleased with the restoration. It's so easy to fall in love with these things.

Short video sewing a paper towel, then 8 layers of shop rag. Tension was a bit tight in the corner with the paper, but I very rarely need to mend paper towels. The rag was nearly half an inch thick, no problemo for this machine.

No, that's not a camera jitter; my hands really do shake like that.
