Amir Khusro enjoys an ever-lasting fame as one of the most versatile poets of the world.
He is traditionally considered to be the founder of 'qawwali' and lyrical poetry in Hindustani (Urdu), credited with enriching Hindustani classical music by introducing Persian and Arabic elements in it. The invention of the sitar and the musical styles known as khayal and tarana are also attributed to him.

This is a 'manqabat' (a type of qawwali) sung throughout the dargahs of the subcontinent and is one of Khusro’s most famous compositions. It revolves around one sentence – a saying of the Prophet Muhammad,
"मन कुन्तो मौला फा हाज़ा अली-उन मौला"
Whoever accepts me as a master,
Ali is his master too.
