I want my AmiPro back! #AmiPro

Well, I did it. I dragged out my old SurfacePro and updated it. I bought a year of Ms365. My SP 8 is too old to get the latest security updates. I was going to replace my well-loved 2020 M1 MacBook Air this spring anyway, but instead I bought a shiny new #SurfacePro 11 which should arrive on Wednesday. Fingers crossed.

Normally I would just find workarounds to get past weird Apple issues, but this ruining of Pages where I did A LOT of writing just broke my Apple attachment. I know I could use LibreOffice but that has no automatic backup and still requires wrestling with file compatibility. So Word it is.

My favorite writing software ever was #AmiPro. Still miss it.

Wann und warum habt ihr damals von einer #68k-Plattform auf nen PC gewechselt? Bei mir war das so um 1992 vom Amiga 2000 mit 68030 und 2 (oder 4?) MB RAM auf einen 486DX50, weil #AmiPro darauf wirklich überzeugender war als alles, was auf dem Amiga in Richtung Text und Layout so lief. Und weil die Picassio-Grafikkarte bei mir nie wirklich stabil mit der Golem030-Karte funktionierte.

Im Frühjahr #1994 war ich mit der Erstellung unserer #AbiZeitung beschäftigt. Dazu haben wir #AmiPro unter #Windows 3.1 verwendet. Die Dateien haben bis heute überlebt – sogar mit dem originalen Zeitstempel (keine Ahnung, wie ich das geschafft habe). Zum Öffnen der Dokumente muss man heutzutage eine virtuelle Maschine aufsetzen. Und genau das tue ich gerade.

And obviously i like the idea of #Open #Source... and open standards are the only way.

And... the roots of #LibreOffice are going back to my "neighborhood"... 😉

Ich habe immer noch die Textverarbeitungs-Dateien unserer #AbiZeitung auf dem Rechner. Sie wurden seinerzeit mit #Lotus #AmiPro erstellt. Jede Seite wurde dabei separat bearbeitet, auf einem HP LaserJet 4M ausgedruckt und schließlich als Blätterstapel zur Druckerei gebracht. Die Fotos wurden getrennt beigelegt und später einmontiert.

Zum Bearbeiten muss man heute einen virtuellen Rechner mit Windows 3.1 starten.

Ja, natürlich mache ich das manchmal
