The U.S. State Department told the Saudi television network Al-Arabiya that "Washington is determined to eliminate Hamas. Israel will not launch a military operation in Rafah without consulting with us. Any operation in Rafah must be directed at Hamas and protect civilians, we have applied heavy pressure on Israel to protect civilians." The State Department also stated that "we are working to ensure additional aid is transferred to the Gaza Strip."
