#afterworld 🛂⃤ S6E1: the "U.S." feels so dystopic after coming back from abroad. Felt this very same way when we got back during the COVID shutdowns.

Carcariass – Afterworld review

Look, I’m a simple man. I like choruses I can sing along that make my voice sound like old school New Found Glory. I’m not the audience for this.

But, that being said, it did feel like I was listening to a movie. Like, if I went to Genius to look at the lyrics, there was probably some sort of storyline. You know what? Fuck it, let’s check Genius.

This album isn’t on Genius. But the point stands. And as the first review on FYSM, let me just say, I’m not going to give anything any fucking stars. I’m not going to give anything a thumbs up. The shit I like isn’t the same shit you’ll like if you like this album maybe.

Anyways, it felt like I was listening to a movie. If you want to listen to a fucking metal movie this is your album. If you want to listen to sing along songs about losing your crush even though you’re a 40 year old man, don’t.

This is my favourite song:

#afterworld 📺⃤ Anyone else personally categorize some shows & movies as part of their 'pandemic' / 'lockdown' period? It's often one of the first identifiers for me when attempting to describe a series to someone, for example. "We watched this during COVID lockdown, no?"

“The contents of his plans are not nearly as important (…) as their sound—the deep sureness of them. And his voice! He has a soft voice, a voice like a piece of silk you might remove from a drawer only very occasionally, something you’d want to run your hands over again and again.”

“Why, Esther wonders, do any of us believe our lives lead outward through time? How do we know we aren’t continually traveling inward, toward our centers? Because this is how it feels to Esther when she sits on her deck in Geneva, Ohio, in the last spring of her life; it feels as if she is being drawn down some path that leads deeper inside, toward a miniature, shrouded, final kingdom that has waited within her all along.”

“The harbor beyond the city is calm and gray beneath a slow drizzle. (…) No boats winking out there. No buoys sounding their bells. Nothing on the horizon. Rain falls on the sea. Out there, fish travel in numberless schools and whales freight their colossal hearts through the cold dark.” #books #AnthonyDoerr #Afterworld #whales #hearts

Creation Stories

“And the light broke over the world and it broke into a thousand thousand pieces, and these pieces fell into all events and all creatures.”
