it just measures how you performed on particular instructor-chosen metrics which are an imperfect measurement of how much they think you know.

please never be ashamed of your grades. nobody with a red pen can take away from your sense of self-worth.

I now typically get half a dozen emails *every day* from predatory journals and conferences, inviting me to send my paper / give a keynote talk. Many of them greet me using a name of one of my past co-authors.

Anyone know how to make this stop?

I wonder if I could dump them all by filtering on the word "esteemed"?

Whoever decided to schedule a huge international conference less than 2 weeks before Christmas and therefore also during finals for the vast majority of academics was an idiot.

Whoever decided we should all keep doing this year after year after year was absolutely insane.

In other news, I have a passable poster presentation draft, but have not written the lecture for my last astronomy class tomorrow. Nor have I written the exam my students will take on Wednesday while I am in San Francisco being overwhelmed by all the Geophysics talks in the world. Nor do I actually know how my poster is getting printed or how I am physically getting to the Penninsula without my car.
