The Wisconsin DOC is stealing from incarcerated people’s stimulus checks. Two people I know have had over $500 dollars taken out of their $1200 checks.
Initially, people were told that the only money withdrawn from the checks would be to cover back child support, however, the people i know this has happened to don’t have children.
Just another way for the state to profit off of prisoners.
Sean’s message, as a formerly incarcerated person, are incredibly important to heed, and he’s 100% right—though we cannot “say their names,” (because the DOC has not released them), they deserve to be remembered, they were people and they were members of our communities.

by criminalizing poverty, in addition to a host of other facts of life that the state has created, they’re able to force those of us who don’t subscribe to the protestant work ethic into situations where we must contribute something in order to receive the means of life (water, food, shelter, healthcare [in the us at least]). these remain legally unattainable to those who choose not to participate.
