The prompt is #Duality
José González, “Killing for Love” from “In Our Nature” (2007)
“What's the point if you hate, die, and kill for love?
What's the point with a love makes you hate and kill for?”
I first became aware of #JoséGonzález when his vocals were featured prominently on #Zero7's 2006 album “The Garden.” There was something about his voice, a certain clarity of tone that appealed to me. When I heard his voice in the more purely #acoustic setting of In Our Nature, his second full-length release under his own name, it stood out even more, adding texture to and elevating the simple instrumentation. There's something metallic about his voice, in a good, hard/shiny way. Is it that his vocals sound almost always double tracked?
But back to our theme...to me, the lyrics cited above speak of an ironic duality, driven home with José’s droning guitar and pure but biting vocal.
