Thanks for stating that.
At this time, we(#Xfce) are NOT currently accepting bug reports against #xfwl4.
They will be closed without mercy.
I should note before people go on a compiling spree, that it doesn’t exit cleanly, mouse actions are funky, many things just don’t operate at all and all kinds of stuff simply isn’t implemented.
That said, #xfwl4 is definitely coming along. But it’s not ready for general public use, there’s a lot a screenshot doesn’t show here. But when a public release happens, I think things will be much more refined by then!
Well, a few months ago, we made an executive decision to actually pay one of our core devs to focus on building #Wayland support into #Xfce. Brian has done a great deal of work to make this happen over the past 3ish months.
Don't quote me on this; but, we _might_ enter public beta for #xfwl4 later this year.
I don't expect it to be ready for our 4.22 release. But, good progress is being made.
Screenshots don’t seem to function yet, so I had to do it the newb way…
Yes, that attempt has been discarded in favor of building a compositor based on smithay.
You can read about the details of decision here:

A short update for March 2026.
We are continuing to actively fundraise for financial support to develop a Wayland compositor for Xfce(xfwl4).
In the month of February, we have received 52 donations (Xfce: $419.61 & Xfce(EU): €634.10).
To date, we have paid out $15,050 for work completed on xfwl4.
Thanks again for your generous support and ongoing donations. We are grateful for your commitment to help improve Xfce.
