Sentence variety

There are three basic sentences in English: simple, compound and complex sentences.

Good writing combines all three to create pace, suspense and many other effects. Too many simple sentences and your writing becomes dull; too many complex sentences and your writing becomes a drag.

Find the sweet spot.

I have been posting some writing for the last few weeks here on Mastodon for three reasons:

1. Get me to writing (doing)
2. Practise writing skills
3. Create something beautiful (possibly happening)

The second one needs some polishing. If #FlashFiction (or a #promptodon) is used to practice writing skills, I better make sure I keep myself focused. That's why I am starting a new initiative for myself (and possibly other writers): the weekly Writing Focus (#WriFo).
