Over 100 million sharks are killed per year. That's 11,000 sharks every hour.🚨

Sharks are essential for a healthy #ocean. They keep coral reefs thriving, fish populations balanced, and marine ecosystems resilient. Yet today, nearly 40% of all shark species are threatened with extinction.

⚠️ #Sharks aren't scary, but a world without them is. Without them, the ocean, and everything it sustains, begins to unravel.

Our crew is out at sea, fighting the threats these apex predators face: illegal fishing, bycatch, shark finning, habitat destruction, pollution and plastic waste.

This #WorldSharkDay, we’re shining a light on these incredible animals – and on the critical work needed to protect them. Join the Movement and help us

🦈 Safeguarding critical shark habitats
🦈 Combating IUU-fishing and finning
🦈 Strengthening and enforcing conservation laws

Together, we can help secure a future for sharks and the ocean.
Sometimes I worry that my work doesn't have enough impact. And then we do 1 school assembly to promote #WorldSharkDay & highlight the many types of marine sci careers (no you dont HAVE to be a diver or fisher) and I feel fulfilled & hopeful about the future. Thank you Broomgrove Juniors (& my kids!)

This #WorldSharkDay, we’re reminded that destructive fishing practices kill hundreds of thousands of sharks each year to the point where THREE QUARTERS of the species are at risk of global extinction.

Recently, Greenpeace Australia Pacific seized almost 20 km of deadly longline gear in the South Pacific during an action. They also managed to free nine sharks, including this blue shark. These ancient, awe-inspiring creatures deserve better.
