Infinite Syntax, Finite Means

To speak, in Humboldt’s metaphysics, is to dwell within a world disclosed by language. This view anticipates Heidegger’s claim that “language is the house of Being,” but whereas Heidegger focuses on Sein, Humboldt is more radical: language creates the frame within which Being becomes intelligible.
