Reese reminds me a lot of my best friend from middle school and I'm probably reading too much of myself into it but that makes me think of this as a slightly toxic relationship. It was for me. Like, I still like her and want good things for her, but eventually realized it was hurting me to be around someone so angry all the time and who took that out on me.

Of course, their whole lives are toxic. And that might sort of shift priorities and expectations.
