For #SteepleSaturday, St Mary's in #Whiteadder, East Lothian, #Scotland. Dating from the 12th century, reconstructed in the 15th century, restored after a fire in 1914, now closed. The village is the #OnePlaceStudy of our member Helen Ramsay—four generations of her family lived and worked there.

The last few photos from WestMill Cottage (stayed there last year) showing the views of the Whiteadder river, the front cottage view and the back of the cottage itself.

From the cottage, a scenic footpath leads to a narrow footbridge that crosses the River Whiteadder and takes you to The Cross Inn at Paxton. The path is narrow and steep in places but well worth the effort of walking. The scenery is very picturesque.

Set at the end of a no-through road three miles west of Berwick-upon-Tweed, England’s northernmost town, and just east of the river from Paxton, a small Saxon village set in Scotland, West Mill Cottage is a true Borders home. The countryside around the cottage and the Whiteadder river is truly stunning.

West Mill is a charming cottage set on the banks of the River Whiteadder near Berwick-upon-Tweed one of two cottages located on the banks of a large meander in the River Whiteadder just outside the village of Paxton.

The river, which burbles just outside the cottage windows, is teeming with brown trout if you are lucky you’ll see the local otter hunt for them. (we didn’t have the luck alas).
