"In particular focusing on Gippsland, the Latrobe Valley, and also the north-eastern parts of the state where we know we've had dry lightning events," he said.

Bushfires blaze across western Victoria after lightning and hot weather

Katelynn Clark felt certain her home would burn to the ground when a raging bushfire hit the edge of her rural property on Monday night.

ABC News

I'm not seeing a lot of news media reporting about the large proportion of Little Desert National Park that's on fire.

Went out for a wander today along the Lal Lal Reservoir trail to #Moorabool Falls just to get out and stretch the legs. As expected, all of the falls along the way were bone dry with only a murky, green "puddle" at the bottom of them.

It was a lovely day. It was really only hot when the cool breeze wasn't coming through, but otherwise, it was a pleasant 28C.

Expecting 39C tomorrow. Wish me luck.

PSA: We're in the middle of another multi-day heatwave in this Victoria, and a watch and act out for a fire that flared last night in extremely inaccessible territory west of Halls Gap (Boroka Track for those that know the area).

A big thank you to the CFA and community who worked together to protect our families and property during the #GrampiansFire on Boxing Day. The fire broke out 20km from the #grampiansnp with the westerly wind change on Thursday, creating a fire front 338km long. 74,000 hectares burnt yet few reported houses lost. It is a testament to the work of fire fighting volunteers, locals and airwing. #fire #bushfire #westernvictoria #christmasfire

Time to return the Grampians to #firestickfarming to reduce the build up of under story fuel and protect the plants and animals and Country. #biodiversity

As usual the ABC online is being utterly useless, but if you're stuck on the Western Freeway at the moment between Melbourne / Ballarat there's two major pileups - over 20 vehicles / 18 patients. Both sides of the freeway - one pileup in the Bacchus Marsh area / the other at Pike's Creek. It's bedlam. Stay away from the area

Oh great - truck heading down the highway has sparked off multiple fires around Lexton. Calling out 15 tankers so far - coming from absolutely everywhere.

Just got back from a lightning trip to Ballarat to pick up an essential and I have to admit, I love the little hand wave #EV drivers are sharing now. I mean you get the finger lifted off the steering wheel acknowledgement in the local area all the time - but this extra one feels ... nice.
