@leguinian_utopia I'm the type of person to confront them, with a camera running, telling them I'm recording for public safety concerns & directly ask them - What are you doing here?
Last year, cops were surrounding one of our neighbours homes & 2 cars had their lights flashing. I marched over & yelled at them. Why are your flashers on? Is there a murder or other violent crime that we need to be aware of? Why are there so many cops here?!?
Cops: It's a wellness check.
Me: The fuck it is! Anyone unwell - you're making them more traumatized by what you're all doing, right now. Turn your flashers off & send away anyone not essential here - which is (arm waving across the cops gang) over half of you criminals with badges! I will start screaming if you don't & then more people will come out & it will be your consequences!

All but one cop car left less than 5 minutes after I raged.

"Are you a mental health worker or advocate?

Do you actually want to help dismantle police brutality and systemic racism in the U.S.?

Then take action, now, to mobilize people to demand a ban on police so-called 'wellness checks' and police response to community health and mental health calls? Because police wellness checks kill. Black and brown people especially.
Countless Preventable Deaths

That’s right. Around the U.S. we have an obscene policy wherein if you see someone suicidal, or they have been not heard from recently, or they are yelling and in an extreme state of consciousness, you are to call the emergency phone line and the geniuses in your county government will send out the police. The police show up, sometimes with guns drawn and sometimes breaking down the door. And people who would not have died, die."

End Police Wellness Checks. Now.

We must take action to demand a ban on police response to community health and mental health calls. Because police wellness checks kill.

Mounties won't offer more information about call

"[Steve (Iggy) Dedam] is the third #Indigenous person shot and killed by a police officer in New Brunswick in four years.

"The deaths of #ChantelMoore and #RodneyLevi, in June 2020, during #WellnessChecks led to protests and calls for an inquiry into #SystemicRacism in the justice system. The provincial government did not call that inquiry. The call for an inquiry arose again this week after Dedam's death.

"The year Levi and Moore died saw wellness checks, and whether police should carry them out, come under increased scrutiny."
