Been really impressed with the #Memmy app for #Lemmy over the past month or so. Made me fully appreciate how much of my Reddit browsing was based on the #Apollo app experience. Memmy does a great job of doing a similar thing for Lemmy, and is seeing almost daily updates. iOS users frustrated with Reddit should check it out https://apps.apple.com/au/app/memmy-for-lemmy/id6450204299

Also, give #Voyager (formally #WefWef) a look as an alternative. Most impressive PWA I’ve ever seen. http://vger.app

App Store

@hxameer Lemmy has a ton of Android apps, all in breakneck pace development, and more are on the way, including some Reddit clients being retooled.

I love #wefwef (now Voyager, as of last night), web based, just "install app" in Chrome, can't tell it's not native. Vger.app.

There's also #connect #summit #jerboa #thunder #liftoff and others if you want native Android.

#wefwef, the awesome PWA for #Lemmy, is renaming itself to Voyager.

Urrrgh… A unique and endearing name being replaced with what sounds like a failed megacorp transformation project. 😕

I found out you can customize web app icons on #iOS, here’s how: https://lemmy.world/post/1125004

Maybe you’re also using https://wefwef.app for #lemmy and want to change the icon. I still prefer native apps, but #wefwef is the best #webapp I’ve seen.

Thought that wasn’t possible, but it actually is. Here‘s two approaches: ## iOS Profile Add the web clip via profile by running this shortcut [https://routinehub.co/shortcut/10290/]. You don’t need to upload the image anywhere, but it means you have the profile laying around. If you‘re okay with uploading the image somewhere I‘d recommend the next approach. ## Change the apple-touch-icon urls I made this little shortcut [https://routinehub.co/shortcut/15817/] that does it for you, you just need a url to the image and run the shortcut on the website you wanna add. (If you wanna use the space mouse icon [https://lemmy.world/post/1088292] I made, here’s a high res image url: https://i.imgur.com/kUxXoIA.png [https://i.imgur.com/kUxXoIA.png]) Or if you wanna do it yourself: You can manually change the apple-touch-icon urls before adding the web clip to your home screen. Either by connecting your device to a Mac and doing the changes via web inspector there, or directly on device by using a safari extension such as this one [https://apps.apple.com/de/app/devtools-extension/id1611993508?l=en-GB] that lets you run JavaScript. Install the app, go to the website, enable the extension, paste this in the console and tap “execute”: >const appleTouchIcons = document.querySelectorAll('link[rel="apple-touch-icon"]'); >appleTouchIcons.forEach(icon => { > icon.href = "https://i.imgur.com/kUxXoIA.png"; >}); You can change the url to any image url you want to use.

@BasementDweller3000 so far I think #Memmy is the best one out there, and probably the closest to a full App Store release. Currently it’s still in TestFlight, but I believe it’s in the approval process right now.

Alternatively, #wefwef is a great option too. It’s based off of the Reddit #ApolloApp and “installs” like you mentioned, by just adding it to your Home Screen, where it behaves like an app. You can find it at wefwef.app

@lafaek I’m using #Mlem and mostly loving it. It’s missing a search box, though, so I’m still going between that and #wefwef until I decide.

I moved off my previous #lemmy server to #geddit, works fine now 👌

#wefwef is a really nice mobile client by the way, it's a pure web app installable as a PWA, so Android and iOS compatible.

@CAD oh wow, I've been trying to use #Lemmy, but all clients I tried are still in early development stage/not working properly, even #Jerboa or the official web client.

#wefwef doesn't seem to be perfect, but IMO, is miles ahead. Thanks for the heads up.

Let’s play with Lemmy. <3 I’ve been testing #thunder , #wefwef , #mlem , and #liftoff.

Some thoughts:

- Out of the lot, the clear winner (at present) is wefwef.

- Sadly, I haven’t (yet) been able to log in to an instance of lemm.ee in Liftoff.

- Thunder and Mlem both ~feel~ nice, but I keep wishing I could just combine them both with wefwef.

The efforts of the developers is to be applauded. Still, I’m left waiting for an app that rises high above the rest. #RIPApollo
