Now autumn arrives, wrapping the world in crisp air and amber light. Conkers thud satisfyingly to the ground still slick from their spiky shell and thrown into pockets, sticks are wielded like swords and puddles and leaf piles become irresistible playgrounds. The stream runs cold and clear, edged with moss and the scent of damp bark. Fallen leaves - crisp, curled and copper-toned - carpet the paths, rustling under boots and wellies. Shop windows shift with the season too, dressed in amber tones, pumpkins and lanterns, mirroring the beauty outside. Family walks are 'encouraged' to keep screens away but before long, tiny hands are busy collecting acorns and treasures from the woods. Laughter (and whinging) mingles with the crunch of leaves, the splash of puddles and the quiet joy of autumn’s little wonders 🍁"

The end of bat survey season means that we can properly start #WeekendWalk again.

We were going to do the Sheffield Round Walk today - despite having walked every segment of it on different walks we've never done the whole thing as one.

Unfortunately we forgot the Sheffield 10k was happening which knackered public transport in the city and we didn't fancy having to fight our way through runners and spectators.

Our plans for a big Sunday walk across the local gritstone edges went out of the window because we almost walked the legs off the dog we are minding on Saturday - 11.5 miles urban ramble. She was so tired that we decided to drive out to the Monsal Trail and do something easy and flat, about 8 miles with a pint of Jaipur at Thornbridge Hall. #weekendwalk
#weekendwalk Dundas Aqueduct to Warleigh and back. Requiring a detour to avoid a herd of cows. 🐄

I had a couple of missed #WeekendWalk because of being on call for work and then this Sunday was just one of my go-to quick walks - about 7 miles down Rivelin Valley, cross the river at the packhorse bridge and up the hill on Coppice track, coming back via Crookes Cemetery.

Hopefully back to a longer walk next weekend. I am also dog sitting for a couple of weeks so should be able to cover some midweek miles.

#weekendwalk circular walk along the Midford Brook, including an 18th century prison and Nicholas Cage's old gaff
#WeekendWalk this week was "Hunters Bar the long way round". 21 miles - Rivelin Valley, Redmires, Stanage Edge, Burbage, Houndkirk Moor and the Porter Valley to Hunters Bar.
