📽️📺 Named for a classic Star Trek torture device, The Agony Booth was a cult site for brutally honest movie & TV reviews.

Running from the early 2000s until 2022, it chronicled pop culture pain for a generation.

💾 Like many early social media platforms, Bebo went through an identity crisis: launching in 2005 with college students as its target audience, then expanding to teens, young adults, & eventually the general public.

I've been distracting myself with something I haven't done in awhile, building a website. It's actually pretty fun... when you know what you're doing or what you want to do at least. Every day I've been spending a little bit of time after work hacking away at it. It's been a nice distraction from work and doom-scrolling just playing around with CSS & HTML again. I'm not going to go overboard or anything (this time), the focus is going to be on actually writing & posting instead of the rabbit hole of endless tweaking that many fall prey to.

While I have the Fediverse, old school Web 1.0 has always held it's sway over me.

Before streaming or YouTube, there was cartoonnetwork․com, 📺 home to Flash games, clips of Ed, Edd n Eddy & Samurai Jack, & Cartoon Orbit, a virtual playground where kids collected and traded digital cards and “orbs.”

The site's gone, but you don't need Dexter's Lab to travel back in time to revisit it — just use the Wayback Machine ⤵️ https://web.archive.org/web/19981001000000*/cartoonnetwork.com

OOP once ruled the frontend.

Then came jQuery, AngularJS, React, ES6, and TypeScript, and everything changed.

Everybody's Free (To Write Websites)

My rewrite of Baz Luhrmann's hit, for the revival and indie web.

Mastodon feels a bit like ICQ, the first social media website I used. So many good memories here.

I'd love it if we can bring this feeling of excitement to this part of the free web!

(Also I might just create my next project in this design!) #mastodon #Webnostalgia
