A waymarker on Syrens Way in Wells , bronze gone dark with weather and touch. Someone has left pebbles at its feet — the old habit of marking that you passed through.

March 22th

Yesterday, I took the afternoon off and went on one of my two-hour routes. It's been a year since I last rode this particular route, and it was great to be back.

It's always amazing what you can discover along the way, even if you've passed by the same spot countless times.

This little waymarker stone was repainted at some point in the not-too-distant past. The marked routes were heavily used back when there were no cars, and people traveled solely on foot, by bicycle, or by carriage.

Two signposts: a modern one for the Wales Coast Path, next to a very old, weathered and indistinct wooden one which is partly overgrown with ivy and indicates Castell Llansteffan to the right and Llansteffan to the left.
