World Drought Atlas

This atlas is a visual resource aiming at conveying in an intuitive and direct way all dimensions of drought. It wants to provide policymakers and governments at multiple levels an overview of drought as a phenomenon, its impacts on various critical systems, worldwide concrete case studies of recent events, and examples of risk management and adaptation. The atlas is not intended to be comprehensive but instead to frame drought-related challenges and responses in such a way that policymakers feel equipped to take steps towards developing drought risk management and adaptation plans and to seek out further information where needed. The atlas should be seen as a call to action to make a shift from reactive towards proactive and prospective drought risk management.

> These interlocking crises are slow moving. They are often subtle or poorly seen, and they are easily ignored by those who don’t understand the consequences of unlimited growth on a finite planet, or worse, those who intentionally choose short-term profit over the well-being and survival of future generations.
