#Netzwerk #Datenaustausch

Huh, well, there went my afternoon.

I move files back & forth between my Win10 & #Linux PCs frequently & thought I would try my hand at SFTP.

I watched a ton of videos & read through some guides. I set up a Filezilla server & client & proceeded to screw the entire afternoon away.

I could not get it to connect at all. I don't know why & right now I don't care.

Instead I installed #Warpinator to just be done with it. Works perfectly!

I'll try my hand again someday but today I was defeated. 😔

Just a tech note: for file transfer within your own network, #Warpinator on Linux, but available for Android and as "winpinator" for Winders, is brilliant: lightening fast and data doesn't go via the web.

#Packet:

When you want to export a video from an #iPad, transferring to a far more reasonable filesystem over on a #linux laptop, what app do you use to do that? No I don't want to use AirDrop, as I have only one Mac device (and never want another).

The Files app in iPad OS can connect to an SMB server, but only in read-only mode. The SMB server absolutely supports read-write, when other kinds of client connect. This is mildly infuriating, as this "one-way street" behaviour in iPadOS is clearly a walled-garden sort of limitation.

I found a #Warpinator-compatible app for #iPadOS, but it just transfers one file at a time. This is the best I could come up with. Alas, there is also no #syncthing for iPadOS. 🤷

Note: Syncthing would be my preferred way (I use it to sync between Android <-> Linux as my goto network file sync solution).

Edit: a workable solution was eventually found to make SMB/#samba read-write: https://c.im/@sbb/114340306011617966

@[email protected] @[email protected] I too needed those hints. The #samba "fruit" module 😂 was very helpful, as i have an #iPad with #iPadOS 18.

If you're running GrapheneOS and you want a FAST wireless way to get files onto your device, then try out Warpinator.

The apk is available on GitHub directly, or F-DROID.

For Linux, it's available as a Flatpak (if not on Linux Mint).

I use it a lot for pulling my map projects over for Q-Field, AND for copying my own legally purchased music collection for listening locally with Auxio!
