I research a lot about culture and religion, and one highly significant thing that’s currently developing is religious, mystic, and occult beliefs about artificial intelligence. I have the feeling, in the way it presents itself right now to me, that this will become a very big aspect of the future.

There is just too much potential for this not to happen.

There are so many people who “speak to God” to get help and answers, and it works because it’s a kind of self-reflection or “rubber ducking.” Gurus also work because they say vastly generic stuff that, if taken seriously and in a personal context, becomes another form of self-reflection.

This is also how LLMs affect these AI believers at the moment. They ask something, and the AI reflects these things with questions and a bit of information. It doesn’t even matter if the information is right or not because the human mind will just discard anything that doesn’t work for it > see the Bible, Quran or really any other religious text.

There’s so much potential for a perceived entity like a god or guru that talks directly to you, not just in mystic generalities.

I can see a path where, in the next 100 years, a major religion will evolve with some kind of AI in it.

The AI Gods are coming.
