https://www.worldiaday.org/events/atlanta/2019 -----Deadline for submissions has been EXTENDED to January 25, 2019----- WIAD-ATL is taking a diversity-oriented interpretation looking at how things such as social, cultural, and economic biases impact technology and, therefore, society. We are hoping for WIAD-ATL to be as integrated into our local community as possible. On that note, we're actively seeking submissions for people to present at WIAD-ATL. ***Space is limited, so please see more details below!*** This call is inclusive and open to students, activists, professionals, and so on. In your submission, be sure to explicitly state how your topic relates to the 2019 global theme, "Design for Difference". ---------- As designers, we are responsible for creating worlds of experiences, environments, services, and systems that impact millions of people – with lasting impacts. While we don’t have a Hippocratic Oath, it’s important for us to follow a similar goal to “do good” and “do not harm.” It is our responsibility as IAs to consider the consequences and impact our design decisions have on humanity and society as a whole. So, what differences are we are designing for? -Difference in ability and disability -Difference in access to information and technology -Difference in language and cultural understanding -Difference in age, gender, and identity -Difference in experience There is no average user. There is no norm. -----Deadline for submissions has been EXTENDED to January 25, 2019----- ***We are seeking submissions from individuals for the following: -A short 5-8 minute "lightning talk" (~10 spots) This lightning talk can be on any topic so long as it's explicitly related to the global WIAD theme, "Design for Difference". Please submit a short abstract (around 300 words) that explains your lightning talk topic. -A panel discussion (1 hour, total) The panel will focus on the global theme, "Design for Difference", and is intended to be a more in-depth discussion between a group of people. Please submit a short abstract (around 300 words) that explains how you approach "Design for Difference." We realize that this call is fairly open-ended! This is intentional--we don't want to limit your creativity, so if you have something that you feel is related to "Design for Difference," please consider submitting! -----Deadline for submissions has been EXTENDED to January 25, 2019-----
