it was gonna happen but I still feel like I've been punched in the gut. Growing up I LOVED radio and still follow online DJs that I listened to 30+ yrs ago We build connections with these people The only good thing is I can't imagine kids are listening to terrestrial radio, so I guess #TheKidsAreAllRight #WeWantTheAirwaves #WFNX

Found this sticker while weeding through some old files. Can't decide whether to put it on the car or my laptop.

@jda @constantorbit I have heard this before, and it is a treasure, but my personal #wfnx coming of age era was the late 90s, and I’m still craving the massive nostalgia hit I’d get from that. /cc @textfiles https://mastodon.social/@misc/110378875830797108

The word is "Earth"
(I have two, so you get two.)

#SamPhillips, “Holding On To The Earth” from album “The Indescribable Wow”

After ditching contemporary Christian music in favor of a secular, more pop approach, and more than a decade before providing the score for the Gilmore Girls TV series, Sam Phillips had a radio hit.

To distance herself from her CCM past, Leslie Phillips adopted her nickname Sam, and issued “The Indescribable Wow” as Sam Phillips’ debut album. Her voice, almost twee but with a smoky edge that you just know will age like Marianne Faithfull fine wine, works perfectly in the 60s psychedelic setting of “Holding On To The Earth.” I’m not sure how widely it was played on commercial radio outside of #Boston, but here it was a favorite on alternative-leaning #wfnx (RIP).

While I certainly don’t go out the way I used to in the 90s, when I do go out…I still dress like it’s the 90s! Coincidentally, the last time I hung out with these two in the same room was at the #WFNX morning show studios in the 90s! Much love to #TonyV & #BobcatGoldthwait.
Anyone listen to WFNX Boston Radio in the 80s? MP3 for you❤️

WFNX radio: 1989 Excerpts

WFNX radio: 1989 excerpts ========================= /uploads/attachments/60cf5f59629e98.24065733.jpg (cassette-sca-small.jpg) GREETS!  When I lived close to Boston MA (USA) one joy was to listen to WFNX radio FM.  The DJs were playing alternative, weird, cool new stuff.  So I made an attempt to try and listen and with my finger on the record button of my cassette recorder to capture my favorite tracks they played. This is raw, rough, just a sampling of what I heard on WFNX radio and I am pleased to share this as a MP3 archive. This was recorded 1989… /uploads/attachments/60cf61db628354.77646274.jpg (WFNX-Logo2b-1920x720.jpg) /site/dload.php?id=66 (/themes/default/images/cns_emoticons/wub.png () Download link for MP3) Your browser does not support the audio element.**Notes:** - The cassette starts off with an advert for the MANRAY (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manray) dance club. I enjoyed going there (1989) for the NEW BEAT music. - The end of the cassette features a recording of phone phreaks voice mail, announcing that his BBS crashed. - SIDE B is recordings from Yo! MTV Raps
